If you take care of your cookware then your cookware will retain their original colour and glamour for a long time. But the task is not that easy because the stainless steel utensils are always used in the kitchen. The cleaning process must not be very complicated or time consuming for in the next hour you may need it!

General care of stainless steel

Stainless steel has percolated so deep in our lives because of the fact that it is durable and easy to maintain. Just a little soapy water and a soft cloth can make all of your stainless steel cookware spotlessly clean. If ever you have to put it in a dishwasher then it is advised that you remove the cookware after the wash cycle and dry it manually with a soft cloth. In case your water is hard, you may notice that dirty ugly stain marks of calcium has formed on prolonged use. In that case you can pour a mixture of vinegar and water, in ratio of one to two, and heat the stained container. When the pot cools wash it thoroughly with water and soap to make your cookware shine as before. It there is stubborn burned up residue on the cookware, you can let the pot with soapy water filled in it, stand for some time. Then reheat the soapy water. Scrub and you will notice that you are no more facing the problem of tough stains. In fact it is better to avoid burning food in the steel cookware. It is never advisable to leave a pan on the fire on itself and of course not to get food burned. Stains are very hard to remove and you can try a cloth and some baking soda and rub well on the stain marks of stainless steel cookware.

Advice

I will advise you not to try any abrasive or bleach based cleaner on your stainless steel cookware. Chlorine and ammonia in the cleaner is common and so you must check the composition of any cleaner you are using. Silver dip cleaners are also harmful for steel utensils. Soap bars and Bon Ami cleaner is good to retain the lustre of the material. Never use metal scouring pads on stainless steel cookware because although it may remove the tough stains it will surely put scratches on the stainless steel utensils. You can use nylon and plastic brushes instead. To get that wonderful lustre back you can very well try rubbing some baking soda on the utensils. If you want to remove rust you can use Oxalic Acid cleaner especially made for this purpose, such as Bar Keepers Friend. To remove fingerprints you can use a soft cloth and a glass cleaner. Never leave a pot of boiling water on the heat and go elsewhere. If you forget then the water will dry up and leave the pot discoloured.

A good stainless steel cookware cleaner and some extra effort can ensure your steel utensils last you forever!
